چکیده

Multi-walled hollow nanoparticles made from tungsten disulphide (WS2) show exceptional tribological performance as additives to liquid lubricants due to effective transfer of low shear strength material onto the sliding surfaces. Using a scaling approach based on continuum elasticity theory for shells and pairwise summation of van der Waals interactions, we show that van der Waals interactions cause strong adhesion to the substrate which favors release of delaminated layers onto the surfaces. For large and thin nanoparticles, van der Waals adhesion can cause considerable deformation and subsequent delamination. For the thick WS2 nanoparticles, deformation due to van der Waals interactions remains small and the main mechanism for delamination is pressure which in fact leads to collapse beyond a critical value. We also discuss the effect of shear flow on deformation and rolling on the substrate.

Mechanical , adhesive and thermodynamic properties of hollow nanoparticles

When sheets of layered material like C, WS 2 or BN are restricted to finite sizes, they generally form single-and multi-walled hollow nanoparticles in order to avoid dangling bonds. Using continuum approaches to model elastic deformation and van der Waals interactions of spherical nanoparticles, we predict the variation of mechanical stability, adhesive properties and phase behavior with radius...

Development of a Disposable Electrochemical Sensor based on Nanocomposite/Ionic Liquid Assisted Hollow Fiber-Graphite Electrode for Measurement of Lorazepam Using Central Composite Design

In this study a new method of preconcentration, separation and efficient measuring of so-called hollow fiber solid / liquid phase microextraction has been introduced for the determination of trace amounts of lorazepam (LRZ) in water samples, urine and hair using differential pulse voltammetry. To this end, a hybrid adsorbent material was used that involved ionic liquid assisted magnetic multi-w...

Nanomechanical behavior of MoS2 and WS2 multi-walled nanotubes and Carbon nanohorns

Nano-objects have been investigated for drug delivery, oil detection, contaminant removal, and tribology applications. In some applications, they are subjected to friction and deformation during contact with each other and their surfaces on which they slide. Experimental studies directly comparing local and global deformation are lacking. This research performs nanoindentation (local deformatio...
